Day 4
Todays painting is more illustrative than the others. This is a 9x12 acrylic on canvas board.
Colors I used: Payne's Grey, Yellow Ochre,Grumbacher Red,Hookers Green,Titanium White
I also used a glazing medium by Golden to paint the shine of the moon.I wanted the colors of the back and middle ground to be very muted and the figure in the foreground to stand out the most. Even thoguh I still used a muted red color for her dress mixed with a bit of green.

Prints are available here at:http://fineartamerica.com/profiles/alexa-lebron.html

I will not post on the 24th and 25th but on the 26th I post both of the days paintings.

Day 3 of my 30 Day Painting Challenge

9x12 Acrylic on canvas board

I went for a smaller painting today and stuck to the theme of mountains(which I am soft of obsessed with lately) My painting are natural looking landscapes, for the most part, but I do go for a slight element of fantasy. This painting took me about an hour and a half.( not including a quick Oolong Tea break.)

Colors I used where Payne's Grey,Yellow Ochre,Cadmium Yellow,Titanium White,Cerulean Blue,Burnt Seina

Please leave comments and let me know what you think as well as ask questions.

Here it is my day 2 painting! I really enjoyed this one, and really wanted this one to be a bit more challenging than the first painting. This painting took about 4 hours and I probably won't do such a big painting for a while, at least not during this challenge. This painting is 16 x 20 on art board. I had some trouble with the tree at first and wondered if it ruined the whole painting. After stepping away for a few I decided I really liked the tree.

Thank you to everyone for checking out my work and following me through this challenge. I'll be back with an update and a new painting  tomorrow.

Painting # 1

Hey everyone! I have decided to finally go one the 30 Day Painting Challenge! For anyone who has never heard of it before, basically I will paint 1 picture every day for 30 days. There are so many different reasons to start this challenge, here are a few that I like the most.

-In 30 days I will 30 new paintings! I know thats obvious but what you want to do with those new paintings may not be. ( 30 new peices for a portfolio to show to galleries, of sell online.)

-It's a clear and fast way to improve on your talent. Form the first painting to the last I will be able to easily see and share the progress I have made as an artist.

- It's a good way to stay motivated and develope good habits.

So I will be back every day for the next 30 days with a new painting to show and talk about some of the things I went through while painting it. At the end of the challenge I will reflect on my progress.

Just A Few Things I've Been Up To

Hey everyone I know I don't post things much but I'm getting back into it! I have so many things to share! First of all let me just say that this is a very fun, exciting and frustrating time in my art right now. It's exciting because I've seen a HUGE leap in the level of my work and also frustrating because now I want to be much better! I have an idea of a series I want to create and I can't wait to be able to show it to everyone. In the meantime however I am still working on a fantasy board game and have seen my skills improve greatly. Here is a painting I started a few days ago and am still playing around with.

How I Stay Motivated as an artist
As an artist it sometimes gets hard to push through your own self doubt and stay productive. I don't always get the feed back I was looking for and at times find it frustrating to ignore my insecurities. Although I am a lot more confident with my work and myself in general, sometimes I still need a little help. Here are a few things that help keep me motivated, maybe they'll help you too.

Sketchbook Videos: I love seeing the progress of others and the different approaches everyone takes. I find that it also helps with my creativity and gets me to be looser and less afraid to experiment in my sketchbook. If I see someone who is "better" than me it just makes me want to practice more.
One of my favorite channels to watch on YouTube is  matthew39arch He's a teacher at the New York School Of Visual Arts and records the sketchbooks of his students. He also has lesson videos up on his channel as well as his website http://www.drawing-tutorials-online.com/
Looking at my old sketchbooks and art work: I make sure to keep all my old drawings and paintings no matter how much I hate them by the time I'm done. Every now and then I look through them and take in the growth that I've made. It helps to compare my old work to my new work rather than compare myself to someone else.
Listening to podcasts and lectures: I find that tuning in to what successful artist have to say about their own experience in the industry helps me to see that I'm not the only one who struggles. Everyone messes up and has to start over, and I don't have to create a masterpiece every time my pencil touches the paper.

Clandestine

So lately I've been studying my a** off trying to improve my art to a higher quality.Looking back at the stuff I've posted before I can't believe I used to be proud of them! But I guess thats how improvement works and i'm glad for it.I know that soon  I will look back at my latest post and hate those as well.I can't wait for that day because it means I'm even better. It's so hard being an aspiring artist but I know this is the only thing that makes me truly happy. So it's not hard to keep my motivation.I one day hope to be a freelance artist and animator.-Alexa Lebron
